My Square Foot Garden

Fr. Benedict pointed me to Rod Dreher’s blog post concerning square foot gardening. I looked at the website Squarefootgardening.com and it inspired me to start my own square foot garden. I have planted tomatoes, squash, peppers, egg plant, okra, various herbs, watermelons and corn. If you want to garden but do not have much space then take a look at Squarefootgardening.com. I have four boxes like the one above.

Thanks for posting this link. My husband and I want to start a garden, but neither one of us has any experience. We want our son to understand where some of his food comes from, and, at the same time, are hoping to lower our food bill (we are trying to pay off debt so that I can stay home and homeschool our son…I posted a prayer request today about this). I wish you the best with your new garden!

i put up two raised beds this year myself. they are 3′ x 6′ x 10.5″. i planted tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lots of herbs, fennel, and strawberries, plus seeded radishes and beets. quite a lot in a small space, but i think i can make it work if i keep it well-tended.

those of us in our mission in columbus dream of a church and surrounding land where we can have community gardens, possibly apts for those who would wish to live next to a church. i’m glad your children are learning from the earth God’s gifts to us in the material world. a proper appreciation of our material/earthly blessings better prepare us for understanding our spiritual journey.
